All resources compliment each other and for best use we suggest you use all resources in conjunction with each other during delivery of the module to your class/audience. The resources tie in specifically to the Wales GB Rally, 23rd-25th October 2009, but can be used in conjunction with any of the other World Rally Dates as the chemistry content is the same.

Rally Driving Teacher Resource

The teacher resource for rally driving is a document with facts, key points and slide descriptions, which can be used as a basis of a script, created to aid the delivery of the rally driving resource. The teacher resource is best delivered in conjunction with the PowerPoint resource (presentation), also downloadable from the site. A downloadable student resource worksheet supplements the module and can be used as a student handout. The resources are suitable for use to aid chemistry teaching for 16 -19 year olds and introduce the topics of alcohols, adhesion and adhesive properties, solvents and the conversion of ethene to ethanol.  Using the sport of rally driving and the application and removal of sponsorship stickers to the rally cars the topics are explored through the resource. Primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols are also covered in this resource

Rally Driving PowerPoint Resource

The PowerPoint resource for rally driving is a presentation designed for teachers to use as a visual tool when using the teacher resource. The presentation looks briefly at the sport of rally driving and gives particular focus to the Wales GB Rally before looking more closely at alcohols, adhesives and solvents. The presentation is visual with pictures as well as bulleted key points and notes. The student resource questions have been added to the presentation along with the answers to allow the answering of the questions to take place in a group situation or to be used for group revision purposes.

Rally Driving Student Resource

The student resource for rally driving is a double page document consisting of questions, pictures and information covering the subject of alcohols and adhesives and their properties. The sheet is designed to be used at the end of the module to help students recap on the material covered and aid teachers to check that learning has taken place. The questions can be used during delivery of the PowerPoint presentation if preferred or as a plenary or homework exercise.
