There are three separate downloadable resources available which are:

Diving Teacher Resource
Diving PowerPoint Resource
Diving Student Resource

All resources compliment each other and for best use we suggest you use all resources in conjunction with each other during delivery of the module to your class/audience.

Diving Teacher Resource

The teacher resource for diving is a document with facts, key points and slide descriptions, which can be used as a basis of a script, created to aid the delivery of the science and diving – gravity and weight resource. The teacher resource is best delivered in conjunction with the PowerPoint resource (presentation), also downloadable from the site. A downloadable student resource worksheet supplements the module and can be used as a student handout. The resources are suitable for use to aid science teaching for 7 -11 year olds and introduce the concept of forces with particular emphasis on gravity and weight. Using the sport of diving these concepts are explored and explained.

Diving PowerPoint Resource

The PowerPoint resource for diving is a presentation designed for teachers to use as a visual tool when using the teacher resource. The presentation looks briefly at the sport of diving and then looks more closely at some of the forces involved with the sport including gravity and weight. The presentation is visual with pictures as well as bulleted key points and notes. The student resource questions have been added to the presentation along with the answers to allow the answering of the questions to take place in a group situation or to be used for group revision purposes.

Diving Student Resource

The student resource for diving is a single page document consisting of questions, pictures and information covering the subject of forces. The sheet is designed to be used at the end of the module to help pupils recap on the material covered and aid teachers to check that learning has taken place. The questions can be used during delivery of the PowerPoint presentation if preferred or as a plenary or homework exercise. The student resource questions cover the forces of gravity and weight whilst relating to the sport of diving.

About Diving
Diving refers to the sport of performing acrobatics whilst jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard of a certain height. Historical artefacts tell us that people have been diving off of high cliffs into water since ancient times.

Modern professional diving was developed mostly in Europe between the late 17th century and early 19th century. The Swedes and the Germans pioneered early technique turning it into a truly global sport and internationally-recognised sport, and it has since become included in the Olympic Games.

Although diving is not a particularly popular participant sport, diving is one of the more popular Olympic sports for spectators. Olympic athletes exhibit many of the same characteristics as gymnasts and dancers; including strength, flexibility, kinaesthetic judgment and air awareness, displaying both physical and technical ability.

Diving can also be an unstructured and non-competitive common recreational pastime in places where swimming is popular and the water is deep enough to allow the activity to take place safely.
