From the 17th of March through to the 1st of April, Melbourne will play host to the 12th FINA World Championships. The event will be the largest aquatics event this year featuring the five disciplines of swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and open water swimming. The very best athletes from around the world will be present in the last major championships before the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. The Chemistry and Swimming module aimed at 14 to 16 year olds is now available to download to mark the start of the championships.  The module introduces some of the chemistry of the halogens and examines electron arrangement of the first twenty elements whilst linking back into swimming and other aquatic sports.
