Superheavyweight Matthias Steiner who won Olympic Gold in Beijing 2008 has been given the title of Sportsman of the Year in Germany. Never before has a German lifter been given this honour.  

 

This is yet another milestone which raises the profile of the sport which sees the launch of the 1st ever Youth World Championships event in 2009 to be held in ChiangMai, Thailand.
